FYP

For my Final Year Project, I worked on a campaign aimed at youths about composting. This campaign was mainly to educate them about composting; how to compost at home, the difference between home composting and industrial composting as well as the difference between biodegradable and compostable materials.

This includes 2 videos, posters, and a few reels.

My contributions

During my final year project, I had the pleasure of being the team's videographer. Although I did not have that much experience doing video, my team saw that I had experience doing photography and felt that I had enough experience to be the team's videographer. Of course, I didn't go in blind, I researched videos and documentaries to basically understand what it means to create a good video. I did manage to pitch some ideas to my team being the videographer. I did lead the videography on the first and second video, but I felt that it still wasn't up to standard.

One of the responsibilities that my teammates entrusted to me was to make interview questions. This seemed like an integral part of the video as it could make or break it. If the questions were not engaging, the youths would not be engaged, which is not what we want. Our target audience is 13 - 20, and this users in this target audience are known for their lack of attention span. Therefore, coming up with interview questions is one of the most integral parts of our video.

Another contribution that I made was making the intro jingle. When my team first showed the main inspiration for the first explainer video, one of the main parts that we decided to incorporate was the jingle. It had to be short, catchy and hook in the viewers. This jingle would be played across all videos to ensure brand identity. Therefore, I had to make sure the jingle was up to par.

Challenges faced

One of the main things I learned from my final year project was to step up. I felt that I did not contribute enough to the team and it felt like they were looking down on me for not taking the initiative to step up and do extra work. I felt like a dead weight in my own team but my teammates treated me the same. It felt like I wasn't putting in enough effort as the rest of them which brought my morale down.

Another thing I learned from my final year project was that communication is key. I know it may sound cliche and people say this all the time but I cannot stress the amount of times that we were thrown off by miscommunication and someone didn't finish their work on time. We did manage to work out in the end, but work could have been much more efficient if we had just communicated well in the first place.

One last problem that I mainly faced was that I felt that I wasn’t doing enough work. It may sound silly, but it felt like a real problem. I felt that my teammates didn’t depend on me enough to delegate actual substantial work, therefore I could not really see much of my efforts put into the final work.

The last learning point I have was that you have to work with people that you sometimes don’t agree with, until the bitter end. I felt like I didn’t have that much synergy with some of my teammates, which lead to some arguments about creative differences. They couldn’t see my point of view and I couldn’t see theirs. However, even though we do have our different working styles, I still had to buck up and work with them because we are a team.
